The room is huge with jacuzzi bath, also they can offer wake-up service. The location is peaceful and incredible, 4 km from Powder Mills.

Good for cycling. Warm and lovely breakfast, lots of options available. Lovely romantic room with pleasant views, an iron and ironing board, an electronic key card, and coffee/tea making facilities.
Cramped bathroom, a little small room.

friendly staff made us feel very welcome and that was extended to our 2 dogs. Refurbished room with flat screen TV, large bath, plenty of tea and coffee, biscuits in the room. Dinner was superb but we only had a main course as had already had a cream tea in the garden that afternoon. Would stay longer than one night next time and try one of the leisure breaks, cycling perhaps.

The level ans standard of service was excellent as was the dining. Without exception every member of staff was trained well, very polite and helpful.Very impressed by the chef and the standard of cooking
The TV system was poor and would have preferred a duvet instead of blankets

We stay here every year when a group of friends walks across Dartmoor and has dinner at the hotel on the Saturday night. The hotel is in a beautiful setting and there are usually weddings taking place as we visit in spring. The food is good but not excellent. The staff are very helpful and several have been there for quite a few years. The hotel's own Jail Ale is very good indeed, especially after a long walk!
We think it is a bit too expensive for the standard it provides.

gorgeous outdoor spaces, charming historical setting, unique afternoon tea offerings
Room maintenance leaves much to be desired!!! Worn furniture and cleanliness issues in common areas detract from the overall experience!!! Certain facilities need a serious update for comfort and style!!!

Brilliant location for trekking on the moor. Great to leave the car in the car park and walk out on some lovely walks. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful.Evening meals were excellent, we thought good value for top notch and very creative food. Breakfasts were good and just the start to the day ! Would definitely stay again

The food was excellent and the service in the dining room first class.
There appeared to be a motor/air extractor running all night which kept us awake.

The surroundings were idyllic. We received a very warm welcome, wonderful open fireplace and a great room. All the staff were very friendly and we would definately be going back.

The large walk-in rainfall shower in the Beautiful Double Room was a highlight, complemented by an inviting ambiance thanks to the crackling log fires. Breakfast was hit or miss. While eggs were cooked to perfection, the chaotic service during one morning stood out. A minor disappointment was the unavailability of warm croissants, which used to be a staple. The setting is charming and offers easy access to local trails.

The position and the lounge areas.Food was very good but the Table dHote only changed twice so on a three night stay it was repeated but the ice creams were the best ever .Whilst we were there one of the lounges was closed for a private function this made the general area quite full.I would not want to stay during a wedding .Our initial room was quite small and at the back,we were lucky that another better room was available which had views across part of the moor. overall it was a nice place to stay the staff were all friendly and helpful although their knowledge of how to go about fishing was very limited.
It could do with having one person in charge ,you never quite knew who was running what , whilst the breakfast menu said fresh fruit none was available on any of the days we were there, plus they ran out of both the smoked Haddock and kippers which did nor reflect well on the kitchen or the Maitre de
